The aerial silk sling and hammock, the cousin to the long aerial tissu, is silk fabric suspended 4-5 ft off the mat in a round loop allowing the student to explore movement, poses, transitions and dance. Students will learn basic vocabulary, build strength and coordination needed for fluid movement.
BEGINNER SILK HAMMOCK DANCE
This class is for the New student. Class structure includes an active warm-up basic DANCE techniques for entrances, exits, sitting, balancing, inverting, and standing in the hammock.
No jewelry, lotions, or body oils, as we don’t want to compromise your grip on the silks. We suggest wearing a close-fitting shirt and pants or leggings. Yoga attire and most workout gear is fine, but shorts and exposed midriffs are not recommended. No zippers or buckles. Don’t forget your water bottle!
As a courtesy to our silk and fellow students Airotique requires clean, smoke-free skin and clothing.
BEGINNER LEVEL SKILL HEIGHT IS 4 -5 FT AND LOWER
INTERMEDIATE SILK HAMMOCK DANCE
At least 6 Beginner Silk Hammock classes
Proficient in pull ups, pull overs, inverts, entrances, and exits
Must be able to invert in straddle from the air safely and without help
5 second bent arm tuck hang with good form
Intermediate Silk Hammock students will master techniques and skills for tricks and poses. Conditioning is a major component of the class. Students will build on basic skills and explore more sling options with inversions, spins, and complex wraps. Students can expect to spend more time off the ground with an emphasis on strength building as well as stretching for increased range of motion. Students will also be encouraged to play with creative movement within the sling.
Beginners must stay within 5ft or less
Intermediate students must stay within 10ft or less.
Advanced students are only allowed higher than 10ft with Instructor permission
Please note drops are taught in Advanced Silk Hammock only. Students must take Beginner Silk Tissu classes before advancing to Advanced Silk Hammock.
Participants must register their own account. We do not allow booking for other students or membership sharing.
Students must be 18 years of age or 15 with parent permission.
